Davide Fanchin
French Horn
Davide Fanchin is an internationally acclaimed Italian horn player, educator, and entrepreneur. Currently Co-Principal Horn with the Yucatán Symphony Orchestra, he performs regularly with leading orchestras across Mexico, Latin America, and Europe.
As a soloist, Davide has performed works by Mozart, Strauss, and contemporary composers, and is a member of the Puro Corno horn quartet, touring extensively in Latin America. He also teaches at the Universidad de las Artes de Yucatán (UNAY), where most of his students secure professional roles.
Davide co-founded the Merida International Brass Festival, collaborating with world-renowned musicians such as Arturo Sandoval and Jens Lindemann. An entrepreneur, he runs Operatichorn.com, a music store, and Holaloro Studio, a design and marketing company. He also co-founded Dzalbay Cantina, Mérida’s first jazz club, in 2019.
Iain Hunter
Trombone
Iain Hunter, originally from Christchurch, New Zealand, is the principal trombone of the Mexico City Philharmonic and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería. He has previously served as principal trombone with the Queretaro Philharmonic (2003–2005, 2011–2013) and the Sinaloa Symphony Orchestra of the Arts (2005–2011).
As an educator, Iain currently teaches at the School of Music Ollin Yolitzli, Facultad de Música UNAM, and the Panamerican University in Mexico City. He has also taught at the Autonomous University of Sinaloa, the CEMUS in Culiacán, and the School of Music in Mazatlán.
Iain has appeared as a soloist with notable performances, including the Grøndahl Trombone Concerto with the Sinaloa Symphony Orchestra. He has been invited to perform, conduct masterclasses, and adjudicate at international festivals such as the Brazilian Trombone Festival and the Merida International Brass Festival, among others.
He holds degrees from Canterbury University (B.Mus.), Oregon State University (B.Sc. in Music), and Indiana University (M.M./Performance Certificate) and has completed doctoral work at the University of Georgia. A founding member of the award-winning Canterbury Brass Quintet, Iain performed extensively with the group, winning the New York Brass Quintet Competition and the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition.
Iain has participated in numerous international festivals, including the Cervantino Festival, Campos do Jordão Winter Festival, and the Miguel Bernal Jiménez Music Festival in Morelia. He began his career as principal trombone of the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra and toured Japan, Hong Kong, China, and Australia as a soloist and member of the Christchurch Youth Brass Band.
Throughout his career, Iain has studied under renowned trombonists such as Warren Baker, M. Dee Stewart, Dr. Philip Jameson, Joseph Alessi, and Fred Mills. He performs exclusively on Vincent Bach trombones.
Richard Stoelzel
Trumpet
Richard Stoelzel, hailed as “one of the greatest trumpet players of our time,” is an acclaimed international soloist, chamber musician, and teacher. Known for his “virtuosic and lyrical” playing and “fluid, liquid-like tone,” he has performed extensively in the U.S. and abroad, including five successful tours of China. As a soloist, he has been featured at multiple International Trumpet Guild Conferences and performed with prestigious ensembles like the Detroit Symphony and New Orleans Symphony.
His solo albums, Born to be Mild and A Mild Fantasie (Albany Records), received critical praise, with reviewers highlighting his “sweet trumpet tone” and “sense of joy.” He has also performed with the Palm Beach Opera Orchestra, Miami City Ballet, and New World Symphony, among others.
A dedicated educator, Stoelzel has taught at institutions including Grand Valley State University, where his students won numerous national and international awards. He has commissioned over 40 new trumpet works and co-founded ensembles such as Avatar Brass and Aries Trio. A Yamaha artist, he continues to perform, teach, and inspire worldwide.
Jeff Smith
Trumpet
Jeffrey Bernard Smith joined the Xalapa Symphony Orchestra in Veracruz Mexico as principal trumpet in 2008. Previously Jeffrey was principal trumpet of the Guanajuato Symphony Orchesra from 2001-2004. Jeffrey has also been a member of the Palm Beach Opera, the Miami City Ballet, and the Symphony of the Americas. Jeffrey received his Bachelor's Degree from the Manhattan School of Music, and his Master's Degree from the same conservatory in Orchestral Performance. Jeffrey's primary teachers have included Richard Stoelzel, Robert Sullivan, and Thomas Siebenhuhner.
Jeffrey has appeared as soloist with the Guanajuato Symphony Orchestra, Xalapa Symphony, Bellas Artes Chamber Orchestra, the East -West International Music Festival, la Banda de Leon Guanajuato, and many others. Jeffrey is in high demand in Mexico giving courses, masterclasses, recitals, and lessons throughout the Republic including Xalapa Veracruz, Tlaxcala, Queretaro, Tlahuitoltepec Oaxaca, Merida, Leon Guajuato, Mexico City, Michoacan, Toluca, and many other places. Since it's inception,
Jeffrey has been an invited artist at the Merida International Brass Festival, playing and teaching with some of the best brass players in the world. He has recorded with the Guanajuato Symphony, and the Xalapa Symphony Orchestra.
He is Professor of Trumpet at the Instituto Superior de Musica del Estado de Veracruz.

Eric Fritz
Tuba
Eric, originally from Hutchinson, Kansas, USA, earned his Bachelor of Music from the University of Southern California and his Master of Music from The Juilliard School, with additional studies in Switzerland. Since 1992, he has been principal tuba of the Xalapa Symphony Orchestra and also serves as principal tuba of the Minería Symphony Orchestra in Mexico City. He is a member of the Avatar Brass Quintet and has performed with renowned ensembles such as the Zurich Opera Orchestra and Mexico City Philharmonic, recording for labels like Deutsche Grammophon and Naxos.
As a soloist, Eric has performed with orchestras in Mexico, the USA, Serbia, and beyond. In 2012, he premiered Concerto No. 3 for Tuba by Dr. Leroy Osmon. A winner of prestigious competitions, Eric also teaches at the University of Veracruz School of Music and the Instituto Superior de Música del Estado de Veracruz, giving masterclasses in the USA, Brazil, Serbia, Croatia, and Mexico.
